Accordance to the advancement of technologies, IT
industry is now facing intense competition in producing mobile devices,
especially in aspects of the features and specifications such as processor and
camera, as mobile users nowadays are being more and more demanding. As these
advancements have been created, it is most likely to lead to a new peak of
trend – taking photos of food and keep it updated on SNS.
It seems common in these days to see the photo of food
being flooded in social network sites (SNS). This phenomenon has now being
termed as ‘food pornography’. This term has been added to tagdef on May 10, 2012; a
website which to help in discovering the meaning of hash tags, it is referring
to the food that is so great; it makes you feel guilty, like when you watch
porn; whereas Your Dictionary defined
it as enticing food imagery. There is even a page, set for the intention of
food sharing, and recipes, named Food
Porn Daily.

Okay, now I have to admit this. Some of the time, it
is really thanks to those food pornographers who shared food porn and sometimes
checked in location for those foods. Due to these, we are able to find nice
food which is strongly recommended by the local to fulfill our taste buds. This
is somehow similar to the intention of pornographers share those photos. I
believe their share is aimed to introduce delicious food to more crowd of
people. While, some, with bad intentions, are to ‘seduce’ their friends

However, on the other perspectives, some may not that
addicted to food porn thus take this as a spam. Personally, I am not the type
of person who is not really addicted to food. Whenever I see my friends posted
food porn on SNS, my responses are – glance through, scroll through, ignore it;
it hardly makes me stop and view through the photos in detail.

Towards the end of the day, food porn eventually does
not help for the sharing purposes especially when the café or restaurant has
just opened, where everyone is so addicted to it; or when a person is in ‘hanger’
– a term use to describe a person who is in anger due to hunger, source from
Facebook.

Food Porn is a term used for pictures of really delicious looking food. In a forum, a woman discussed and said that "I have been looking at a lot of this since I started my diet, because I figured that if I could not eat deep fried cupcakes, coated in chocolate sauce, topped with multi-colored sprinkles, I would at least look at it. The first couple of times, I drooled, longingly, but after a few days of receiving my Food Porn Daily (foodporndaily.com) I actually found myself becoming less hungry while looking at my food porn." I personally din't realize that photos of food helps in dieting. In my Instagram, I followed healthy lifestyle. The photos of food posted are mainly healthy food such as fresh juicy fruits, and salads with recipe included. Even that makes me drool! Yes, the same fact that everything has its pros and cons.
ReplyDeleteCamera and smartphones nowadays are not only tools to take memorable photos with friends and families but also serve as a tool to take food porn, share what they eat and also to show off to others. In my opinion, I think that this phenomenon occurs due to social influence and the advancement of technology. Network users will follow the trend of posting food picture when they saw their friends keep on posting. The feelings of “want to try and want to be like others” are the main attraction of posting food photos on social media such as Instagram and Facebook. It has again become a new trend. Before we start to have our meal in a cafe or restaurant, the first thing that we do is not cleaning up the utensils but take photos with the food. Some people who do not like this behaviour call it as a “morbid”. On the other hand, because of the progression of technology, we can update or upload everything to the virtual world so easily. With just one click, we can show everyone about our daily life style and share our story to them. This has led more and more people start to take food photo. What do you think about this behaviour? Do you like it or not? By the way, I admit that I am a food porn photographer too. I like seeing food on my social media. :D
ReplyDeleteWhat I can say about food committed porn is something like making others jealousy with their foods. I thought the motive that they’re posted a food photo is to persuade others to eat that food. This is a habit phenomenon among individual which cannot be stopped. Towards it, I have been recognized all of people that checked in could help when others needed. Where we can get the best food? What place of food that we want to eat?
ReplyDeleteThis is kind of interesting topic love to share. Well, in my opinion, food porn is one way of people to show off with their glamorized visual photo of food. They took a few minutes to take a photo, then shared it social networks. Meanwhile, it is kind of marketing communication which are to promote people.
As for me, I am a heavy food porn addicted personnel. Haha, why not? The food looks so nice and I have to snap it and share for my friends on social network!
ReplyDeleteFood porn to me is actually a way to enjoy my lifestyle, is more likely as writing diary to me, just I write it in pictures.
These colorful pictures are all my precious memories.
Is such an interesting topic to discuss with, like it!
As for me, I am not addicted heavily in food porn but my friends around me are one of them. They like to capture every food that dished on the table even though the food that both of us ordered are the same. When I am hungry, my friends keep capturing the food and I only can look at them before she finished capture the food. Instagram users who always post food photos can also be the food bloggers. Instagram allows users to add caption to describe the pictures and videos as well as comment and “favourite” (a signal of “heart”). People are crazy to get the “like” on their food photos. On the other hand, the photos taken by different type of mobile devices will affect the aesthetic view of the food. For example, the food from night market also can be taken by different angle and make it looks so delicious while inappropriate ways of shooting will not produce a good photo. However, for some of the restaurants, they hash tag their food porn on Instagram to attract the attention of customers. It is one of the ways to promote their food or products on social media.
